At SLPW, we specialise in taking bespoke pieces from the drawing board to reality.
Choosing the environmentally responsible alternative to wood, metal and concrete ensures that while you protect your budget, you also protect the environment.
We recently worked closely with the Vincent Wildlife Trust to develop and manufacture a working bat roost as part of the Lesser Horseshoe Bat Conservation Project.
We were approached to redesign an existing roost that had been constructed using OSB board, which was deteriorating due to the environmental conditions at its location. Working through several design concepts, we refined the structure to identify the most suitable and durable solution.
The final design combined recycled plastic lumber with EKOply sheets, creating a robust alternative better suited to the demands of the environment. Using a tip tray supplied by the Vincent Wildlife Trust, we successfully manufactured the roost to the agreed design.
The customer was pleased with the finished result, which is now undergoing testing as part of the conservation project.
Swansea Council approached us with an exciting vision: to create a bespoke gabion basket-style table and bench set with seating for approximately eight people, designed to surround a lamppost outside a sports court.
Always happy to take on a challenge, we worked closely with our fantastic production team to develop a unique design incorporating recycled plastic table tops and seating boards. Once the design had been approved, we sourced gabion baskets of the appropriate size and strength, along with locally sourced stone to complete the structure.
The finished installation was carried out by Birch Landscapes and Groundworks, bringing the project together and creating a practical, durable and distinctive seating area for the community to enjoy.
We wanted to create something substantial and exciting for a school giveaway that we could run through Facebook, and after exploring a few ideas, we settled on designing and manufacturing a recycled plastic Unimog.
The finished piece was showcased at the Royal Welsh Show alongside Birch Farm Plastics, giving visitors the opportunity to see it up close and helping us generate excitement for the upcoming giveaway.
The competition was a fantastic success, attracting hundreds of votes from schools and nurseries across the country. Once the voting had closed, we were delighted to announce the winner: Ysgol Gynradd Dewi Sant in Rhyl.
Congratulations to the school! From the response we received, we’re sure the Unimog will become a much-loved addition to the nursery and provide plenty of enjoyment for the children for years to come.
Neath Port Talbot College Nursery approached us with a creative idea to repurpose a number of old primary school seats into a new bench for the children to enjoy. After receiving an image of their vision, our team was delighted to take on the challenge and set to work developing the design.
We love finding new ways to reuse existing materials and support local organisations, so we were especially pleased to bring this idea to life. As part of our commitment to supporting the local community, we donated the finished bench to the nursery, giving the old school seats a new lease of life while creating something practical and enjoyable for the children.
Durlais Fishing Pond approached us to provide a quotation for the design, manufacture and supply of 100% recycled plastic fishing pegs, including the removal of the existing rotting wooden units. The quotation was also prepared to support their grant application, which was fortunately successful.
Following approval of the plans by Onllwyn Community Council, we supplied eleven fishing pegs in a variety of sizes and designs, along with a fenced dipping area for local schools to use as part of educational activities and pond-life studies.
This was a fantastic project for everyone involved. Working alongside Birch Landscapes and Groundworks, who facilitated the removal of the old pegs and installation of the new ones, we helped transform the pond’s facilities into a more durable, practical and attractive space for the community.
The completed fishing pegs look fantastic and are designed to provide decades of use without the ongoing maintenance associated with traditional timber. We have also since supplied and installed an information lectern, providing visitors with details about the fish and other wildlife they can expect to discover around the pond.
We were approached by a member of Swansea Council to help with a project at a local school where the existing pond-dipping platforms had deteriorated. Originally constructed from timber, the platforms had begun to rot, making them unsafe for the children to use.
We developed a plan to replace the old structures with new pond-dipping platforms manufactured from 100% recycled plastic. This would provide the school with a strong, durable and long-lasting solution, eliminating the problems associated with rotting timber and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance.
To complete the project, the pond first needed to be emptied to allow the existing structures to be safely removed and the new platforms installed. We worked alongside Birch Landscapes and Groundworks to carry out the necessary works and bring the project together.
The new recycled plastic platforms have provided the children at Lonlas Primary School with a safe and practical area where they can continue to explore and learn about pond life. Built to withstand the elements and years of regular use, the new platforms are designed to last for decades to come.
Monmouthshire County Council approached us to develop a recycled plastic solution for concealing the recycling bags that local shops place outside their premises. The aim was to create a practical, attractive and durable unit that would help keep the town centres looking tidy while providing a long-lasting alternative to traditional materials.
After obtaining a sample recycling bag, our team set to work designing a bespoke unit around its dimensions and requirements. Once the design had been approved, we began manufacturing the units using recycled plastic.
During the manufacturing process, the Council also asked whether we could incorporate an additional shelving area alongside the main unit to provide storage for cardboard boxes. We were happy to adapt the design, creating a practical combined solution that met both requirements.
The completed units are now in use throughout Monmouthshire’s town centres, helping local businesses manage their recycling materials while maintaining a cleaner and more organised appearance in the surrounding public spaces.
